Travelling Australia: Three Incredible Off-Road Adventures

With the abundance of terrains and habitats that make up our great country, there’s no better way to discover all of what this country has to offer than by Australian off-road adventures. Discover the thrill of 4 wheel-driving through deserts and rainforests, across rivers and along coastlines by pushing the limits of your off-road vehicle.

With such an expansive array of lands and sites to see, it can be difficult to choose where to travel to next. If you’re starting to feel like it’s time for another adventure, why not check out one of these three incredible off-roading adventures:

Cape York

The tropical climate of northern Queensland propagates an ever-changing landscape. The ebbs and flows of the wet and dry seasons are continually shaping the coastline, grasslands and surrounding rainforests.

Cape York is home to an abundance of challenging 4WD tracks, built on red clay, sand and exposed rock these routes are difficult, but rewarding. Explore amongst rivers, waterfalls and luscious green forests as far as the eye can see. Best recommended to tackle these terrains between May and October as the rainfall of this tropical climate’s wet season can render 4WD tracks dangerous and impassable at other times of the year.

The Birdsville Track

The heritage of the Birdsville Track harks back to the 1860s when it was used for livestock transportation between South Australia and Queensland. With poor road quality eventually putting a stop to operations, the track has been commandeered by 4×4 drivers who take on the great expanses of this 517km route.

Travel through deserts, dunes and gibber plains on this off-roading adventure. Before you leave, remember to stock up on supplies as Mungerannie Station is the only stop for replenishment on this long dusty road.

Cameron Corner & Stuart Park

If you’re looking for the quintessential Aussie experience, you can’t go past having a foot in three states at once. Cameron Corner is the meeting point of South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland and is a must-visit for any Aussie adventurer.

Take the opportunity whilst at this landmark to explore another, the dingo fence is the longest in the world, running for over 5,600km and leads to the Stuart National Park. Travel east through the park across the desolate red landscape, over desert dunes and through wetlands. Discover the 40+ year old park created by large cattle and sheep farms and uncover one of its many off-roading opportunities.
