Tesla Cybertruck – The 4WD of the Future?

The long-awaited Tesla Cybertruck has finally been revealed and we’ve got mixed feelings about it.

Powerful Prototype

Some say the futuristic 4×4 looks more like a children’s toy than a top of the line, new-age vehicle, but it’s definitely got more power than one. With a towing capacity up to 6,350kg and your choice of up to three electric motors, the power behind this truck is no joke. Featuring state of the art adaptive air suspension, is the Tesla Cybertruck the ultimate off-roading vehicle?

With numerous hidden storage spaces, adjustable ride height and over 400km travel distance on a single charge for base models. Plus a 1,500kg+ carry capacity, it sounds like the newest member of the Tesla family is every off-roading fan’s dream!

Mixed-Up Metrics

So what’s the problem? Whilst the Cybertruck is deemed to have all the grunt of a Ranger, it’s not your average looking off-roading vehicle. Imagine getting bogged on Binns Track in a silvery tank, ain’t nobody got time for that. Not to mention the “bulletproof” exterior, meant to be as tough as a rocket, which shattered on the first demonstration. It seems like there may still be some kinks to work out. Production doesn’t start for approximately another 24 months which should be plenty of time to work out these issues.

For those of us used to an old-school driving approach, the Cybertruck’s lack of side mirrors can also be somewhat off-putting. No traditional rear-view mirror here either, instead you’ll check the traffic eating your dust through a display connected to a camera embedded in the rear of the vehicle. Whilst we’re definitely moving toward higher-tech more self-sufficient vehicles, we’re left wondering, how far is too far?

If the weird design and pre-mature unveiling haven’t scared you off, you can reserve yours now for just US$150. Manufacture of the three-engine AWD model doesn’t commence until late 2022. But if you just can’t wait, production of the single-motor RWD and dual motor AWD are set to begin in late 2021.
